The breakaway clock stopped at 1.9 this winter

Grace Beth Sutton and Ashley Weber tied for the fastest breakaway run of the season at 1.9 seconds.

Grace Beth Sutton caught and broke the string in 1.9 seconds at the Desert Rodeo, the fastest breakaway run anyone has recorded this season. Ashley Weber matched it at the Pioneer Days Rodeo.

Breakaway is the quickest event in the arena, and 1.9 is about as fast as the barrier and the rope will let it go. Behind the two leaders, the times stack up in tenths. Shaya Biever roped a 2.0 at the Drayton Valley Pro Rodeo for $1,703. Bradi Whiteside matched the 2.0 at the Leduc Black Gold Rodeo. A cluster of 2.1s followed, Nicole Baggarley at Pioneer Days, Lawrie Neal and Payton Smith both at Drayton Valley.

In an event decided by a few hundredths, the draw and the start are everything. Sutton and Weber got theirs to 1.9. The rest of the field is roping into the summer trying to find a tenth.
