The bull riding bubble is getting mean

A few thousand dollars separates a season from a near miss.

Bryce Jensen holds the 16th spot in the PRCA standings. His season earnings stand at $69,359. He competes out of Huntsville, Texas.

Qynn Andersen sits 15th with $70,419. Andersen is from Koumala, Queensland.

Cooper James is ranked 14th, having earned $70,497.

Mason Moody currently occupies 13th place with $71,052. Moody competes from Letcher, South Dakota.

These four bull riders are positioned around the Wrangler NFR qualification line. The top 15 by regular-season earnings will advance to the NFR in December. The narrow difference in earnings means a few rides will determine who qualifies. The 2026 PRCA season runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026.

The summer run of rodeos has begun. This period includes the Cowboy Christmas week around July 4. That week often sees shifts in the standings. Major payouts are available.

The 8-second whistle is crucial for these riders. A qualified ride earns a score. A buck-off means no score, only a time. Each successful ride adds to a rider's season earnings. A high score can move a competitor several places in the standings.

The Cinch Playoffs in Sioux Falls are scheduled for October 2. These playoffs serve as one of the final opportunities for riders to secure their NFR berths.

The circuit demands consistent effort. Riders navigate different arenas and various bucking stock. Each bull presents a new challenge. The mental aspect of the sport is demanding.

Maintaining a position in the top 15 requires winning at multiple rodeos. It means covering tough draws. Riders compete against not only the stock but also the clock and their peers. The NFR is the ultimate goal for these professional bull riders. Securing a spot there defines a season's success.
